Tinakilly House Summer Wedding
There’s something truly special about weddings that feel both intimate and full of life—and Susan and John’s September celebration at Tinakilly Country House in Co. Wicklow was exactly that. With soft rain tapping on the windows and a warm breeze rolling in from the sea, their day was wrapped in a cozy, romantic atmosphere that perfectly matched their story.
Susan and John’s love story spans the globe. They first met in Ireland, lived together in sunny Australia, and later got engaged in the otherworldly beauty of Reykjavik, Iceland. So it’s no surprise that their wedding was a celebration of travel, deep connection, and shared memories.
They didn’t set a specific theme for the day, but everything about it felt like a modern fairytale—elegant, simple, joyful. Their priority was never about ticking boxes—it was about soaking in the moment: sharing delicious food, dancing until late, enjoying great music, and most of all, spending time with every guest.
Tinakilly House – The Perfect Match
When they discovered Tinakilly House Rathnew, Co. Wicklow, they knew it was the one. In fact, it was the only venue they viewed—and they fell in love instantly. It had everything they wanted: intimacy, luxury, and a touch of magic.
Nestled on a hill overlooking the Irish Sea, Tinakilly is a Victorian country house built in the 1880s. Originally the home of Captain Robert Halpin (who laid the first successful transatlantic telegraph cable), the estate is surrounded by 14 acres of lush gardens and ancient woodland. Inside, it’s all high ceilings, antique charm, and cozy corners—ideal for a day that blended laid-back moments with stylish celebration.

Summer Wedding Day
The morning began with bridal preparations in one of Tinakilly’s elegant suites—full of laughter, a few tears, and lots of prosecco. Despite the light rain outside, the atmosphere was warm and bright inside as final touches were made and anticipation grew.
The ceremony took place in one of the beautifully decorated rooms on-site, with large sash windows letting in soft, natural light. The vibe was relaxed but emotional—every word spoken felt genuine and full of meaning.
Afterward, guests flowed into the reception spaces, where drinks were poured, conversations bubbled, and the rain eased just enough for a stroll around the gardens. Dinner was served in the stunning marquee overlooking the grounds—an elegant meal shared among family and friends.
And then, the party. Oh, the party. With live music from the fantastic band A Few Good Men, the dance floor was packed all night. The energy was electric, the music was on point, and Susan and John didn’t stop smiling (or dancing) once.
What made this wedding truly special was the way Susan and John approached the day: with presence and gratitude. They were fully there, from start to finish—eating, laughing, dancing, hugging, listening. They didn’t let the little things distract them, and that’s what made it all so meaningful.
Their wedding wasn’t just a celebration of love—it was a reflection of how they live and love every day: fully, joyfully, and with hearts wide open.
